Cardboard Cuda

I made a cardboard cuda for my dad. It has a electric motor so it can move. It goes extremely fast. I made dad one so it can race my one. I made my one ages ago and I also made my sister one. My one is the fastest, then my sister's, then my dad's. I have started making my mum a split window Kombi. I can't wait to see if it can beat my one.

Here is a picture of a real cuda

Wooden Model Train

This trimester in wood work for my impact project I made a wooden model train. I finished it on the weekend during lockdown. It looks really cool. My dad helped me buy some bolts and washers. The train is made out of rimu and I added a couple of details.

I liked designing the plans for the train because I had to think of what I wanted the train to look like and where I wanted to put all the different details.

I got frustrated when the train slipped out of my fingers when I was bringing it to the shed. The whole back of it broken half because the wood splits easy. Luckily I was able to glue it back together.

I found it tricky to stain the train because the tin of stain got stirred up. All the thick stain at the bottom mixed with all the thin stain on the top. This made it really thick so was hard to paint on.

Here's is my wooden train that I built.

October Student Reflection Newsletter

I have been writing my October student reflection newspaper.

I found it easy to take a selfie.

I found it tricky to think of what to write.

Tui Ridge thank you cards

Last week we went away to camp to Tui Ridge.
This week we had to write a letter to someone who's spent all their time making our camp so awesome. I wrote to Dom who was an instructor at Tui Ridge.

I found it easy to fire a slingshot and reload really quick.

I found it tricky to climb up all of the stairs going to the start the flying fox.

My digital learning object shows I can take a screenshot of my Google doc and put it onto my blog.

Here's a list of activities we did.

1. Rope maze

2. frisbee golf

3. Flying fox

4. Slingshot paintball

5. Laser tag

6. Nerf wars

7. Indoor rock climbing

8. High ropes

Parihaka

For Reading we have been learning about Parihaka.
The events of Parihaka happened in the 1880s. It was when the the New Zealand government sent troops in to take Maori land and then they sold all the land to the people who just arrived from England. The people of Parihaka were forced to find a new place to live because the troops burnt their houses and destroyed their crops. The Maori chiefs, Te Whiti and Tohu were put in prison for no reason and didn't even get a trial.
We had to think about what the soldiers were feeling like when they walked into Parihaka.

I found it easy to insert the soldiers.

I found it tricky to think of what to write on my blog.

My digital learning object shows I can insert a Google slide to my blog.

Te Wiki o te Reo Maori

It was Maori Language Week - Te Wiki o te Reo Maori. We decided to make a book using Book Creator to show people how to pronounce Maori words. I chose to do mine on numbers. It was easy to choose the backgrounds because there weren't that many to choose from. It was tricky finding out how to pronounce waru and tekau because I kept forgetting how to say them.
Click on the picture below to read my book.

Animals Should Not Be Kept In Cages, Zoos Or Circuses

This week we have been writing about

I found it easy to I found it easy to copy and paste it on to my blog.

I found it tricky to write it in my writing book before I put it on my blog.

my digital learning object as I can copy and paste a Google doc on to my blog.

Animals Should Not Be Kept In Cages,  Zoos Or Circuses

Would you like to be kept in a cage, whipped, rely on humans to survive, be taken away from your habitat, even taken away from your family and friends? No you wouldn't! I strongly believe it is cruel to keep animals in cages, zoos and circuses.

Animals are losing their ability to hunt. Tourists feed the animals junk food and the animals are getting obese I think this is cruel and mean. Sometimes they get heart disease and diabetes.

Secondly they are taken away from their habitat. Lack of freedom means their muscles shutdown. Some countries can be too hot or too cold for the animals in zoos. Some polar bears have to lie on plastic Icebergs instead of real Icebergs.

Thirdly the animals get taken away from their family and friends. Babies are taken away from their mums. Elephants are social creatures and they get sad when they are not in a herd. Elephants will be depressed and sometimes even die if they are not in a group.

Sacraments of Initiation

This week we have been learning about the  Sacraments. They are signs of God's presence. The Sacraments of Initiation are Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. I have received all three of them. We had to create a slide showing what the Sacraments of Initiation are, the symbol and the ritual. I found it easy to find a symbol. I found it tricky to find out a ritual for Confirmation because I couldn't remember one. I searched it on the internet and found out.

Haast eagle

Last week we have been writing about an extinct NZ creature. I chose the haast Eagle.
We have been researching an extinct NZ creature. I chose the Haast eagle because it sounded interesting.
I found it tricky to get it finished in time
I found it easy to find a website to get some information.
My digital learning object shows I can controls see ctrl-v a Google doc on to my blog.
WHat did you learn about the Haast eagle from reading my report?

Haast eagle

The haast eagle was the biggest eagle to live on Earth, weighting up to 17.8kg. Any larger, and it would not have been able to fly.  The classification for a Haast eagle is Accipitriformes.

Bones of the eagle have been found in more than 50 places, mostly in the east and south of the South Island. Some are estimated to be only 500 years old, showing that eagles and humans were alive together. Other bones are up to 30,000 years old.

Compared to other birds of prey, it had short but powerful wings for the size of its body, with a wingspan of up to 3 metres. This probably meant that it "flapped" rather than "soared". This also fits with the theory that the Haast eagle was a forest bird, used to flying quickly through thick vegetation. The Canterbury Plains were once a combination of forest, shrublands and grasslands, with drier forested areas than on the West Coast.

July student reflection newspaper

We are reflecting  on are learning in July.
We reflect on what we have been doing during the months so we know what we have achieved and what we have done and where to next.
I found it easy to take a selfie of myself.
I found it tricky to make the 10 stars fit in.
Next time I would try and find a better background for my selfie because there is a notice behind me.
My digital learning object shows that I can copy and paste a Google doc onto my blog.

David Williams fact file

This term we started reading Slime so we had to do a fact file about David Walliams.
I found it easy to find the facts.
I found it tricky to find pictures to put in.
My digital learning object shows that I can copy and paste a Google slide on to my blog.

Faith poster

This week Miss Steel gave the whole school a challenge. It was to do a Faith poster. You had to write faith in a place where you could say it clearly. A quote from the Bible and write what faith means.
I think Faith gives people hope, by saying I can do it is hope and believing in that is faith.
I missed out on handing my poster in for the challenge because I was a day late.

Report Writing

This week we are learning how to structure a good report. We were given cut up strips of writing with sentences on them. We had to put it together and make it make sense and make paragraphs. Then we glued it onto paper.
I found out that a paragraph needed to have more than 2 sentences and the sentences were about the same thing.
I learnt that in a report you have to the classification, a dynamic fact, where it lives (habitat), and what it looks like (description). You could also have a paragraph about what it eats.
I found it tricky to put it together because it was hard to space out my paragraphs.
My digital learning object shows that I can take a photo of my learning and post it on my blog.
